Massive hospital; building programme announced

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock has launched the largest hospital building programme in a generation as part of a new Health Infrastructure Plan published yesterday, on Monday 30 September.

The plan’s new, strategic approach will ensure the health service will have world-class facilities for patients and staff for the long term.

It sets out a long-term programme of investment in health infrastructure, including capital to: build new hospitals modernise our primary care estate invest in new diagnostics and technology help eradicate critical safety issues in the NHS estate.

Furness General Hospital in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria will be among the hospitals to benefit with University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust being one of 21 trusts receiving seed funding.
