Local Government minister visits Cumbria as government pledges £50 million
Greg Clarke MP, minister for Local Government, was in Cumbria yesterday speaking to people affected by flooding and seeing for himself what needs to be done.
Greg (second from right) is seen here with Kevin Beaty, leader of Eden district council (at left of picture), and other local government leaders.
The government has promised a fund of £50 million to help with the clear-up, which is very welcome, but such is the degree of devastation that this may not be enough. I understand that Kevin and other leading lights of local government in Cumbria are following Sajjad Karim's helpful suggestion and talking to Greg about the possibility of an application to the European Union Solidarity Fund.
