Independent Study backs Conservative plans for higher National Living Wage
The government has been cleared to implement the increase in the national living wage proposed by the Conservatives by an independent study commissioned by the Treasury, which concluded that a higher rate would have little impact on jobs.
The review, ordered by Philip Hammond when he was chancellor, studied evidence from Britain, America and Europe.
Its findings support the government’s plan to raise the living wage to £10.50 an hour by 2024 and reduce the age threshold from 25 to 21.
