Eviction ban extended

It was announced at the weekend that the government is extending the ban on bailiff evictions for an additional six weeks, to protect and support renters while the national lockdown restrictions remain in place.

  • The government has taken unprecedented action to support renters during the pandemic, including introducing a six-month notice period and providing financial support to help those struggling to pay their rent.

  • Extending the ban on bailiff evictions until 31 March, in all but the most serious cases, builds on these measures so that renters remain protected during this difficult time, while also striking the right balance with the rights of landlords.

  • This extension delivers on the commitment to protect renters during the pandemic, providing them with peace of mind, and this will be kept under review in line with the latest public health advice.
