Quote of the day 4th February 2018

“The levels of anti-semitism I’ve seen in the Labour Party are just astonishing. The only thing I see that’s worse than sexism in the Labour Party is anti-semitism.”

(Councillor Claire Kober, Labour leader of Haringey council, who is standing down as leader and from the council in May following what she describes as "bullying and sexism" from Momentum supporters. The quotes above and below are from and interview in yesterday's Times which you can read in full here.)

The article also includes the following passage:

At one council meeting last year, she proposed a motion in support of the international definition of anti-semitism.

'I was met with this wall of sound. Many of them Labour Party members screaming, shouting, howling, trying to stop me speaking.'

When the motion was passed, there were shouts of 'shame, we’ll see you in your constituency Labour Party meetings', a threat of deselection that has since been acted on.

One Jewish Labour councillor was told by a Momentum-backed candidate that “you will have more time to count money” after the local elections in May but Ms Kober’s attempts to have him disciplined or expelled were rejected by leftwingers.

'Antisemitism is tolerated within the Labour Party. That Ken Livingstone is still in the Labour Party I find inexplicable.'”)
