Denton Holme by election tomorrow

Tomorrow (Thursday 6th September 2018) there are two by-elections in the Denton Holme area of Carlisle, one for Cumbria County Council and one for Carlisle City Council.

I have been to Carlisle to support Syed Ali (Conservative candidate for Carlisle City Council) and Geoffrey Osborne (Conservative candidate for Cumbria County Council) in the two by-elections.

The by-elections were caused by the sad death of the late Councillor Hugh McDevitt, who was remembered at today's meeting of Cumbria County Council and for whom all the officers and members stood for a minute's silence in token of respect.

There were also four brief speeches in tribute to him from the three group leaders and the council chairman, explaining why he was held in great respect both by people who shared his political views and those who did not as someone who worked hard for Denton Holme.

I hope that whoever wins these by-elections will work as hard for the residents of the area as Hugh did. I went to campaign for Geoffrey and Syed because I am confident that they would do so.
