Gridlock in Whitehaven

Tangier Street in Whitehaven is currently closed for works as part of the North Shore improvement project.

When this project, being implemented by Cumbria County Council with support from a central government grant of taxpayer's money, is complete it should make travel in the North and centre of Whitehaven easier. At the moment, obviously, the necessary work is making things difficult.

Large areas of Whitehaven town centre were practically gridlocked with stationary traffic for a significant part of the "rush hour" yesterday evening, particularly in the Strand Street area. If you have to drive through that part of town in the next few days, please allow extra time.
