Connecting the UK

Today the government announced a deal with mobile phone providers to level up and connect the UK, delivering on a commitment the Conservatives made to the British people at the last election.

  • For too long, broadband connectivity and mobile phone coverage have lagged behind in some areas, creating ‘not spots’ and preventing communities, businesses and people from making the most of the opportunities that are taken for granted elsewhere.

  • That is why we have secured a landmark £1 billion deal with mobile phone providers to boost 4G across the nation and end patchy mobile phone coverage for good. This will mean 95 per cent of the country is covered by 4G by 2025, spurring economic growth and closing the digital divide across the nation.

  • This is all part of our plan to bring the country together and level up opportunity through better connectivity – delivering on our promise to take action to end poor mobile coverage in the countryside within 100 days of the election.
