An interesting counterfactual from Peter Kellner
A lot of people, though definitely not everyone, will say "I wish" on reading Peter Kellner's counterfactual
"Welcome to the end of David Cameron's second term"
about what might have happened if Margaret Becket and Sadik Khan had had the sense to refuse to sign Jeremy Corbyn's nomination for Labour party leader.
(In the real world Margaret Beckett later described herself as a "moron" for signing that nomination.)
I think Peter may be overstating the global impact of that decision - particularly in the United States - but there isn't any doubt that British, and probably also European, politics would have been massively different had Mr Corbyn failed to get enough nominations to get on the ballot.
It is quite interesting to read what Mr Kellner - who whether you agree with his world view or not is a very shrewd political observer - thinks could have been different. And also, what will be the sting in the tail for many who like the rest of the piece, what might might have turned out just the same.
