Supporting the families of NHS staff

Yesterday, the government extended the offer of indefinite leave to remain, free of charge, to the families and dependants of NHS support staff and social care workers who die as result of contracting coronavirus.
  • Every death in this crisis is a tragedy, and sadly some NHS support staff and social care workers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of saving the lives of others.

  • This offer of indefinite leave to remain will be effective immediately and retrospectively – free of charge. It will mean that those who work in social care and our NHS, everyday risking their lives on our behalf, know that we as a nation are eternally grateful to them and their families for their service and sacrifice.

  • The government will continue to work across all departments to look at ways to offer further support our NHS staff and ensure their families have the support they need.
