Weaponising hunger
Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative has decreased the supply of grain onto global markets and destabilised global food prices.
And the UK Ministry of Defence says that Russia is now using some of its most powerful weaponry to target infrastructure housing and transporting grain.
For example, AS4 Kitchen missiles - five and a half ton weapons originally designed to sink aircraft carriers - have been used by the Russian Federation to destroy grain silos, and with them thousands of tons of grain.
The Putin regime is weaponising hunger - not just in Ukraine but among vulnerable people all around the world - to support their illegal and monstrous invasion of Ukraine.
It is sadly unlikely that the perpetrators of this crime against humanity will end up where they deserve - in the dock at the International Criminal Court. But the rest of the world can, and must, ensure that their invasion of Ukraine is repelled.
