Sunday music spot: "Holy is the true light" - Harris
I was at a briefing at Church House yesterday.
The meeting was held in the beautiful assembly hall which the Church of England general synod uses. An inscription runs round the walls, just below the ceiling, which reads
"Holy is the true light, and passing wonderful,
Lending radiance to them that endured in the heat of the conflict.
From Christ they inherit a home of unfading splendour,
Wherein they rejoice with gladness evermore,
Hallelujah."
I was reminded of the beautiful music to which William Harris set those words.
In the recording below that music is sung by the choir of St Stephens, Canterbury
