Boris in Scotland

Today the Prime Minister will visit Scotland to mark his first year in office, reaffirming the Conservative commitment to support all parts of our United Kingdom as we recover from coronavirus.
  • The coronavirus pandemic has demonstrated, more than ever, how every part of the UK benefits from being together – and it is only through the sheer might of our union that we have got through this crisis.

  • In Scotland, UK Government action throughout this pandemic has protected over 900,000 jobs – a third of Scotland’s entire workforce – and we have also boosted the Scottish Government’s budget by £4.6 billion to help tackle coronavirus and delivered millions of pieces of PPE to keep Scottish frontline workers safe.

  • This is in addition to our continuous efforts to make the Scottish Parliament the most powerful devolved Parliament in the world – including delivering 111 new powers after our transition period with the EU ends later this year through our UK Internal Market Bill, and through the successful transfer of substantial new powers through our two Scotland Acts in 2012 and 2016.

  • This action shows our commitment to level up and close the opportunity gap across the country, and is only possible when we stand together as one United Kingdom.
