Trade and Agriculture

Today, the government launched the new Trade and Agriculture Commission, putting British farming at the heart of our trade policy and remaining a world-leader in animal welfare and environmental standards.
  • As Britain takes control of its international trade policy, we will put British farming at its heart and ensure that we seize new export opportunities for our farmers.

  • The new Trade and Agriculture Commission will provide a forum where stakeholders, including the public and industry, across the country can help shape trade policy.  The Commission will advise on matters including what trade policies we should adopt to secure opportunities for UK farmers, while ensuring the sector remains competitive and that animal welfare and environmental standards in food production are not undermined.

  • The government has been clear it will not sign a trade deal that will compromise our high environmental protection, animal welfare and food safety standards. We are a world leader in these areas and that will not change.
