Consultation on the UK's space programme

Today, the Transport Secretary announced a public consultation on the rules governing our spaceflight programme, paving the way for the UK’s first ever space launch.

  • Our space sector can strengthen our national capabilities, create high-skilled jobs and drive future economic growth across the entire United Kingdom.

  • The government is consulting on the regulations to support the Space Industry Act, to enable a range of commercial spaceflight to take place in the UK – so that the first launches can take place in the early 2020s – and help us achieve our target to grow the our share of the global space market to 10 per cent by 2030.

  • We will ensure there is a national approach to our space sector, creating jobs, attracting investment and putting us on course for the first ever space launch on British soil within this decade.
