A new Decent Homes Standard

The government has just launched a consultation on introducing a new Decent Homes Standard for the private rented sector, strengthening tenants’ rights and improving the quality of housing in the UK.

  • Boosting the quality of our housing stock in the private rented sector while cracking down on unscrupulous landlords are both key to creating a thriving private rented sector that renters deserve.
  • That is why the government as launched our new consultation on plans to introduce a Decent Homes Standard meaning millions of renters could benefit from improved standards for rented homes, as we continue the biggest reforms to the private rented sector in 30 years.
  • Conservatives want to see a thriving private rental sector for accommodation balancing the right protections for tenants with a fair deal for landlords so everyone who rents in the UK can live in a quality home.
