Fast track planning for major infrastructure projects
This week the government launched a fast-track planning route to speed up major infrastructure projects, supporting economic growth, improving transport links, and enhancing our energy security.
- It remains a priority for this government to deliver major infrastructure projects more quickly, particularly in the face of global inflationary pressures.
- Obviously due diligence needs to be done before major projects are approved but the present system allowing objectors to raise the same issues not just once, which is fair enough, but again and again and again can cause the system to take a decade to approve a major project which the country desperately needs.
- That is why the government is now proposing a means to fast-track major infrastructure projects through a new planning route, ensuring projects such as road improvements and offshore wind farms are built more quickly – building on our Energy Security Strategy to make sure the country is building the infrastructure it needs faster than before.
- These changes will help deliver vital infrastructure projects faster than ever before, by speeding up the planning process which often moves too slowly.
