Ben Wallace and the Australian PM visit BAE shipyards in Barrow
Yesterday, the Defence Secretary and the Australian Prime Minister visited the shipyard where the next generation of AUKUS nuclear submarines will be built for the Royal Navy, boosting our joint security, creating jobs in the UK and growing the economy.
- The AUKUS pact between Australia, the UK, and the USA allowed Britain to work with our allies to further strengthen our joint capabilities, enhance technology sharing and bolster each other’s security regime.
- That is why new world-leading submarines are being built in Barrow-in-Furness, after the Conservative government provided £5 billion for defence spending. This project will build on more than 60 years of British expertise designing, constructing and operating nuclear-powered submarines.
- Our commitment to this security partnership is unwavering, and this project will also help us deliver on our promise to grow the economy and create thousands of jobs in the UK for decades to come.
