New house is great, or it will be, we went to choose the "extras" over the weekend. Its just some (not all) but some of the extras are so funny.
It reminded me of buying a brand new car, and the salesman looking gobsmacked and saying "What? you thought it would come with wheels on"
I was speaking to a green party member earlier on Facebook - the place of ultimate intelligence :)
we got onto wind farms
me- i objected to one near to my mothers home as it would ruin the lake district and needs stor back up, it costs more than it gains, and is over subsidised.
Her- Well it can look that way, but it saves the planet.
me- what? running a diesel generator when there is no wind reduces CO2? and subidising helps?
Her- yes, well no to the diesel, but its wind, and yes subsidies do build the right economy and save the planet
me- what about the scenery and destroying the views for no return?
Her - well where would you put them
me - I guess on the moon for the amount of use they are here.
Her - but its the cost of getting them there
me - did i lose you somewhere in that bit of sarcasm?
her - no, its actually a good idea but the cost of getting them there is prohibitive, and of course how would you get the energy back here?
me - you are kidding right? you know the moon is a vacuum and has no atmosphere?
her- yes but they could use space suits to build them
at that point i ran away, but yes you see, not even wind farms are so bad that someone would not support an even worse idea
