Lest we forget

Tributes have been paid to a pregnant nurse who died after contracting Covid-19.

We must never forget all the fantastic NHS heroes who have put their own lives on the line to save people from this horrible disease

Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, 28, who worked as a nurse on a general ward at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital for five years, died on Sunday. The baby girl was delivered successfully and is doing well, according to the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, who called Ms Agyapong a “highly valued and loved” member of staff.

The Government has confirmed 19 deaths amongst those working for the health service, but the Press Association has estimated based announcements from NHS trusts and tributes from loved ones that the toll so far is likely to be closer to forty.

Rest in Peace

Only 19, or are you massaging the figures again?

The same Press Association report which suggested that the actual total may be close to forty also said that nineteen had so far been officially confirmed.

Whether it is NHS workers or deaths generally, the numbers of deaths officially confirmed is always going to lag behind the reality, and that's not a matter of massaging the figures, just the inevitable reality that official findings take time to check and numbers take time to collate.
