Supporting businesses

New figures show how the Government has supported over a million businesses to help them get through coronavirus in every part of the country – and we will continue to support jobs and livelihoods through our Winter Economy Plan.

  • Throughout this pandemic the government has prioritised protecting jobs - providing unprecedented support for businesses and workers up and down the country, protecting jobs and livelihoods.

  • Figures released today show how the government has supported over 1.3 million businesses, in every part the United Kingdom, with over £52.2 billion in Coronavirus Business Interruption Loans and Bounce Back Loans.

  • New support to protect jobs and businesses required to close because of restrictions is being provided – including the expanded Job Support Scheme, with grants of up to £2,100 a month to pay two thirds of the wages of staff who cannot work, plus increased and more regular cash grants of up to £1,500 every two weeks for those businesses.

  • Conservatives will continue to protect jobs and help businesses through the uncertain months ahead, as we adopt a new response to the virus.

The government hasnt helped anyone. they threw out laws forcing businesses to close.

Loans, im not helping someone by breaking their legs so they cant go to work and then giving them a loan to see them though till they heal. Im saddling them with debt they did not need.

The new job support scheme, dont tell me this will be added to the debt figures, thus in effect our unborn great great grandchildren will still be paying off the "nothing" that was lent.

If "Conservatives" - i use the term very loosly, want to continue to protect jobs and help business they would isolate the vunerable, then they would get rid off all covid regulations and allow the enconomy to work.

We have to take action to control this wretched bug or it will kill huge numbers of people.

There is very generous support available to try to mitigate the enormous damage which this will do to the economy.

I was about to write "which everyone realises this will do to the economy" but actually some people seem to think calling another complete lockdown now is a good idea.

And yes Jim, however the figures are presented, this whole situation is of course going to make the country's debt situation which was finally getting under control. a great deal worse.

It didn't have to be this way

No, it could easily have been a lot worse.
