The Casey Report

The Prime Minister confirmed the government's commitment to change the culture in policing, to restore confidence and trust in light of the findings of Dame Louise Casey’s report into the Metropolitan Police.

  • The abuse of power by people who are in a position of trust, revealed through the cases of David Carrick and Wayne Couzens as well as Baroness Casey’s report is shocking and wrong – as the Prime Minister has repeatedly underlined.
  • That is why we are ensuring the College of Policing is currently updating the statutory Vetting Code of Practice for police officer that all forces legally have to follow, and all police forces are in the process of checking their officers against the police national database.
  • It is right that the government – alongside the Met Police and the Mayor of London’s Office – take the time to carefully consider the report and drive the changes needed to restore trust and keep people safe.
