There will come a time to stop oil and gas exploration, but it isn't now.

I want to see Britain have a sustainable mix of low-carbon energy sources with the main components being renewables and Nuclear.

Britain has already almost entirely phased out the use of coal for power generation, and power stations like Drax have been repurposed to use more sustainable fuels.

There will come a time when we can substantially reduce the amount of oil and gas we use. But it is grossly irresponsible and premature to suggest that the time to stop all oil and gas exploration in the North Sea will come in the this parliament or the next one.

Sir Keir Starmer's promise to promise an end to oil and gas exploration is not just premature, but as daft as anything Corbyn came up with.

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
