Green Fascism

In my opinion the preponderance of evidence suggests that climate change is taking place, that human activity is contributing to it, and the precautionary principle suggests that we should take intelligent action to reduce the risk that this activity will cause the sort of change which might do grave damage to our planet and to human beings.

So I am not one of those who believe that the idea of climate change is some sort of conspiracy or mass delusion.

However, I also believe that the Earth's ecosystem is far more complex than any of us understand and that it is even more insane to try to shut down debate about how our actions may be affecting that ecosystem and how to deal with it than it is to try to pretend that there is no issue.

So although I strongly disagree with those who don't think there is any evidence for man-made climate change, I find the idea of describing them by using language like "climate change denier" and trying to place them on the same level as holocaust deniers to be not just unwise but also highly offensive.

I find it even more unwise when similar tactics are used against those who accept that we need to protect our environment but who put forward differing views about how to deal with that challenge.

I have seen two articles written this week by Brendan O'Neill, the editor of "Spiked" about the attacks which some of the more extreme greens have been making against "The Sceptical Environmentalist," Bjorn Lomborg.

You can read those articles at

http://www.spiked-online.com/newsite/article/are-you-now-or-have-you-ever-been-a-climate-contrarian/16913#.VUVTx-lFAeg

and

Mr Lomberg is not, even on the hardline green's own terms, a "Climate change denier" because he accepts that man-made climate change is an issue which needs to be addressed.

So instead the hardline Greens have labelled him a "Climate contrarian" and the Australian greens are trying to block him from being allowed to establish a research facility at the University of Western Australia.

The British Greens have called for a purge of officialdom to get rid of anyone who doesn’t accept “the scientific consensus on climate change”.

Not all Greens go along with this kind of Green Fascism. But those who do are not, whatever they may think, the true allies of genuine environmental protection. Because that is something which only genuine debate and open-minded scientific investigation can deliver.

The conservative party in copeland should hang their heads in shame. They did nothing about the bedroom tax when hard working copeland councillors were out in the cold shivering in protest. What were you doing?

How dare the conservatives and their two faced lies threaten our future. We know exactly what you've been up to. WHILE WE have been fighting for the hospital YOU have been running around with idiots plotting to destroy our area. You wouldent come to our meetings WOULDENT COME councillors were invted many times. When you did not come we were shown why. Now we know you would rather serve the stakeholders of companies than your very own citizens who guard the hospital. Citizenship is a two way process.

Yawn.

Yet another copy of the same inaccurate and semi-literate drivel. And as before it has nothing to do with the post against which it has been submitted.

Further proof of just how dim some Labour supporters are.
