Music to relax after campaigning: "Never mind the why and wherefore" from HMS Pinafore

The "Music to relax after campaigning" slot which I posted on 1st May 2015 was a magnificent rendition, "encored" several times, of Gilbert and Sullivan's trio "Never mind the why and wherefore."

This was taken from a D'Oyly Carte 1986 performance produced Channel 5, starring the late and incomparable John Reed as the first Lord of the Admiralty (Sir Joseph Porter), Pamela Field as Josephine and Michael Rayner as Captain Corcoran. Back in May it could be seen on YouTube.

It is immensely unlikely that the fact that someone uploaded onto YouTube a short extract from this performance, which is nearly thirty years old, would have reduced whatever sales revenues the original still has. It is more likely to have increased them (certainly I was sufficiently amused to buy a legitimate copy of the original in spite of the fact that it had never been put onto DVD)

Nevertheless someone who would have served the commercial interests of their clients much better by spending their time looking at the possibilities of reissuing the title in a more modern medium has since decided to exercise copyright prerogatives and block the Youtube clip.

I am of course not disputing their commercial right to do this.
