Coronavirus diary, day 75

If the weather we have had so far this Summer, today being an example, is anything to go by this may be one of the warmest summers of my lifetime.

Hope this is not a sign of climate change. We do need to look very carefully at intelligent measures to keep the carbon footprint down -  for example, do use coking coal to make steel for which there is no good alternative, don't burn coal for energy or heating for which there are good alternatives.

Also hope the good weather does not lead people to break the social distancing rules - though most people have been very responsible.

I must get my broadband upgraded as soon as fibre becomes available. Very fed up with trying to cope with the bandwith demands of three adults during the day and four in the evenings on an ADSL copper line - and in these days when so much is happening online it is far more of an issue than it was.

As a BT shareholder I fully welcome the decision to invest the money which might otherwise have been used to pay dividends over the next year in expanding the fibre network instead. The longer term rewards for the country and for stakeholders in the company will be far greater.

Keep well
