Progress report on the Plan for Jobs

Today, one year on from the Conservative government's landmark Plan for Jobs announcement, figures show that 14.5 million jobs have been protected nationwide throughout the pandemic – and the government continue to support jobs as our economy recovers, safeguarding livelihoods and giving everyone the best chance of moving on from the crisis as we build back better.

  • At the start of the pandemic Britain, like almost every other country, faced the prospect of huge numbers of job losses, with the UK on the brink of a financial crisis like no other in history due to the coronavirus pandemic.

  • That is why the Conservatives set out a Plan for Jobs, a blueprint to protect, support and create jobs across the UK and help people gain the skills they need through schemes such as Kickstart, and figures show this has supported more than 14.5 million jobs to date as part our unprecedented support package worth over £400 billion  – one of the most generous packages of support in the world.

  • Our Plan for Jobs has safeguarded businesses and livelihoods across the UK, and as our economy continues to recover our support measures will continue to give everyone the best chance of moving on from the crisis as we build back better.
