The National Security and Investment Bill

Today the government introduced a new Bill which will strengthen powers to investigate and intervene in foreign direct investments if there are grounds to believe that those investments potentially threaten Britain's national security.

  • The UK remains one of the most attractive investment destinations in the world and we want to keep it that way; but hostile actors should be in no doubt – there is no back door into the UK..

  • The National Security and Investment Bill will modernise and update the Government’s powers to scrutinise, and as a last resort block, any deal that poses unacceptable risk to national security while maintaining the UK’s reputation as an attractive place to invest.

  • This Bill will mean that we can continue to welcome job-creating investment to our shores, while shutting out those who could threaten the safety of the British people.
