Cracking down on benefit fraud

The government has announced a £510 million crackdown on benefit fraudsters, protecting honest taxpayers’ money that funds essential public services.

  • Despite preventing at least £1.9 billion of fraud during the pandemic, some criminals took advantage of the government's commitment to make sure that people could access support where it was needed to put in fraudulent claims.
  • That is why the government investing £510 million to crackdown on benefit fraudsters and recover taxpayers’ money. 2,000 trained specialists will be recruited to review benefit claims, carry out property checks, follow up earning declarations, and cross-check bank details.
  • Anyone trying to abuse the benefits system and con the taxpayer will be caught out as this crackdown protects honest taxpayers’ money and the funding of our public services.
