Next year's council funding settlement

The forthcoming year's financial settlement for councils has been announced, providing a £53.9 billion funding boost to local councils in England – levelling up communities across the country and supporting authorities with the resources they need.

  • Councils play a major part in delivering for their communities across the country and play a central role in our mission to level up.
  • That is why we have announced a £53.9 billion funding boost for councils – including more than £1 billion to support adult social care – in the largest cash-terms increase in grant funding for 10 years, whilst at the same time protecting residents from sharp rises in council tax.
  • This is vital to our levelling up mission as we build back better from the pandemic, as well as helping local councils to deliver key front-line services for their communities.
