Key points on this election

The Prime Minister has called a General Election which will take place on 4 July. Here are the key points to remember:

  • Uncertain times call for a clear plan and bold action to chart a course to a secure future.
  • The choice at the election is clear: stick with the plan by choosing bold action for a safer, more secure and more prosperous future with Rishi Sunak, or go back to square one with Keir Starmer and the same old Labour.

CHOOSE sticking with Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives who are working through a clear plan and will take the bold action needed to deliver a secure future for you, your family, and for Britain in an increasingly uncertain world

REJECT going back to square one with Keir Starmer and Labour, who don’t have the conviction, courage, or plan needed to navigate an increasingly uncertain world and secure a brighter future for our country

The UK has faced unprecedented challenges caused by Covid and Ukraine. This has made life more difficult for the British people.

By sticking with the plan, Rishi Sunak is making progress. The ship is steadier than it was before. Inflation down from 11.1 per cent to 2.3 per cent and returned to its normal level, the lowest since 2021. Rwanda Act has passed, and we are getting the planes ready. Economy growing, with GDP up by 0.6 per cent and we have the joint fastest growth in the G7 in this quarter. That is why we have been able to cut NICs – the double tax on work from 12 per cent to 8 per cent, saving the average worker £900 a year.

But the future is far from secure. War has returned to Europe. China is aggressively attempting to expand their influence. Iran and their affiliates are sowing unrest across the Middle East.

Because the ship is steadier, we can now take the steps needed to secure Britain’s future. In this increasingly uncertain world, we need to build a future where we are safe, secure, and prosperous. That means: protected from global events. Safe to walk the streets. If you work hard and play by the rules, you will get ahead. Our children and grandchildren will have every opportunity to thrive.

That is why Rishi Sunak has a clear plan consisting of bold action needed to make the country safer, more secure and more prosperous.

Q: Why are we having an election?

Inflation has returned to its normal level and the economy is turning a corner. Now the public should choose who has the clear plan and can deliver the bold action needed to secure a better long-term future for our country and our children, in an increasingly unstable and uncertain world.

Q: What is this election about?

The world is more dangerous than it has been since the end of the Cold War. Putin’s Russia is waging a brutal war in Ukraine; in the Middle East, the forces of Islamist extremism threaten regional and global stability; and China is seeking to dominate the 21st century by stealing a lead in technology.

Uncertain times call for a clear plan and bold action to chart a course to a secure future.

So this election is about who has the clear plan and is willing and able to take the bold action that the UK needs to secure its future in an uncertain world.

well here is a quick news flash, I promise I wont vote for Kier Starmer, mainly because I have absolutely no intention of moving anywhere near london, least of all Holborn and St Pancras. I wont vote for Rishi Sunak either as, whilst I did once rent a house in Richmond whilst serving at RAF Leeming, I have no intention of moving back there.

There may be some humour here that I'm not quite getting, but fortunately voting for a political party does not commit you to move house to the party leader's constituency.

To vote for Rishi Sunak you absolutely have to live in Richmond. You can vote for a conservative party MP in your local constituency, but we dont elect our PMs, At least the public don't at a general election.
Its actually a very common misconception.

Thats why, much the same as in the USA, You can actually be elected as PM, even though your party gets less votes than another one.

OK, I take your point, and you are right that we do not have a presidential system. So yes, to directly vote for Rishi Sunak as an MP you do have to live in Richmond, North Yorkshire and to directly vote for Sir Keir Starmer as an MP you do have to live in his constituency.

In practice, though I accept not formally, if you vote for a Conservative MP you are effectively voting to keep Rishi Sunak as PM and if you vote for a Labour MP you are effectively voting to make Sir Keir Starmer Prime Minister.

Many many years ago, while he was Conservative party leader, somebody said during a general election campaign that "To vote for Winston Churchill you have to live in Woodford" and in response there was a cartoon published showing Churchill campaigning against a map of the UK with signs everywhere saying "Woodford."
