Gene Wilder RIP

2016's horror run of the deaths of much loved figures continues with the news that Gene Wilder has died at the age of 83.

He was a very talented and versatile comic actor: I am  one of probably many people who particularly remember him in the title role from the film version of Roald Dahl's story "Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory") and as the Frisco kid from Mel Brooks' film "Blazing Saddles".)

For some peculiar reason it has become popular of late for people who are posting sarcastic comments on social media insulting someone else's point of view, religious beliefs, or lifestyle to attach a picture of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. I usually don't think this is a good idea even on the rare occasions where I have some sympathy for the point that the people who do this are trying to make.

Instead I am going to post an image from the film with one of the positive and inspirational lines which Gene Wilder actually did say as Willy Wonka:

"Time is Precious. Don't waste it."

Gene Wilder made a lot of people laugh. He will be missed.

Rest in Peace.
