Government statement on Coronavirus

Today, the Prime Minister chaired a COBR meeting and alongside the Health Secretary  launched a battle plan on the coronavirus outbreak, as part of the government's plans to prepare for all eventualities and keep the British public safe.

It was announced that:
  • The Committee discussed, finalised and signed off a battle plan to help ensure we are doing everything we can and are able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
  • A war room will also be up and running in the Cabinet Office, bringing together communications experts from across Government and the NHS to roll out the public information campaign and respond quickly to cross-cutting issues.
  • Every Government department will have a designated Minister who will oversee their department’s role in the cross-government response to the virus. Every single person has a role to play in helping to manage the spread of the virus by washing their hands for 20 seconds and following clinical advice.
