Trading with the USA

The UK government has today published its' negotiating objectives for a free trade agreement with the United States, which will pave the way for lower prices, more choice and greater opportunities for businesses across our four nations.

  • The government wants to agree a free trade agreement that strengthens our economic relationship with the USA, increases cross-border investment, and opens up opportunities for British businesses and industries.

  • The agreement will deliver for the whole United Kingdom, with Scotland, the North East and the Midlands forecast to benefit most from removing barriers to trade with the US. In addition, our negotiating objectives set out that any future agreement must protect our NHS and uphold our high standards on food safety and animal welfare.

  • The aim is to drive a hard bargain to strengthen British industry, create more jobs and boost wages - and this transatlantic trade deal will also reflect the unique closeness of our two great nations.
