Cometh the hour, cometh the man ...

Just when we need an authentic British hero to cheer us up - along comes Captain Tom Moore.

Of course, he was already a hero for his wartime service in the 8th battalion Duke of Wellington's regiment (145 RAC) but there is something magical about his decision to raise some money to help people in the NHS by walking a hundred times round his (very large) garden before his humdredth birthday in a few days time on 30th April.

I gather than walking round it this garden a hundred times would be about 2,500 metres.

Obviously this has struck a chord. Thanks to the generosity of the British public he reached his initial target to raise one thousand pounds in 24 hours so he set a new target of a hundred thousand pounds and soon smashed that.

Then he set a new target of a quarter of a million pounds and thanks to the generosity of the British public he soon p[assed that one too.

While I was writing this, he had nearly half a million supporters and they had donated £9,637,597.92

Looks like he's on track to break ten million shortly. What a wonderful gentleman.
