Diwali greetings

It is Diwali, celebrated by Hinds. Sikhs and Jains as the "Festival of Light."

The PM and Chancellor are among those sending greetings.

Boris Johnson wrote:

"Happy #Diwali and #BandiChhorDivas!

I know that this year celebrations will be different, but I am filled with respect for the way British Hindus, Sikhs and Jains have gone out of their way to help others throughout this pandemic."

His message also referred to the doctors and nurses who have helped care for the sick and for the Temples which had used their kitchens to feed the  vulnerable and support key workers.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak tweeted,

"I’ve placed our rangoli outside No.11, the mithai are set to be delivered and the family Zoom is booked in. I know things will feel a bit different, and it’s hard not to be able to see family, but we will get through this together. Happy Diwali everyone!"

Here is an interview on which he expands on this.

Happy Diwali!
