Nitwit of the week award

Oops.

Nitwit of the week award for incompetent and inaccurate left-wing journalism goes to Catherine Bennett and the Grauniad/Observer for a piece suggesting that the corrupt actions of former MP John Stonehouse had paved the way for similar shenanigans from "members of his party," wrongly identified as "Tory MPs."

They had to do a quick reverse ferret and change the headline when it was correctly pointed out that Stonehouse had been a LABOUR, not a Conservative, MP.

The original

The corrected version

After the journalist's byline this revised version of the article contained the correction, "An earlier version of this article mistakenly referred to John Stonehouse as a Conservative MP.")

P.S. It has been suggested that the Observer website then pulled the whole thing altogether, which would probably have been the most sensible action taken at any point in the process of writing and publishing the article, but at the time of posting this update (11.30pm on Saturday 7th) I could still find it online with a quick google search.
