Quote of the day 3rd November 2015

"It is a reminder for all of us to take a broader view, and focus less on the daily margins in the horse race. One way and another, after this election it is the pollsters and commentators, as much as parties and politicians, who need to smell the coffee."

(Lord  Michael Ashcroft, in his analysis of the results of the 2015 General Election, why the Conservatives won, why Labour lost, UKIP failed to break through and the Lib/Dems were crucified, and why the polls failed to predict the result, published as  The Unexpected Mandate.

The reference to smelling the coffee alludes to the title of a similar work he had published after the 2005 election warning the Conservatives of the need to learn lessons from that defeat, which was called Smell The Coffee: A Wake-Up Call For The Conservative Party.)

Not really, its a need to look further beyond the next election which of course now is 2020, its a need and a call to start playing the long game and stop kicking the can down the road. Sure the current government have rduced the deficit, but they have incresed the debt. since 2010 the debt has been raised faster than any other period in history. I am not kidding, its time to stop can kicking trying to go for votes in the next election and start cutting. The growth from fuel falling will only take you so far, the rest you have to do on your own.

I know politicians do not like making cuts so much, they say its "political suicide" but then I look right now, and i think, so the conservative party have until 2020 to make a mense, and look at the opposition they face, is it really suicide, is it?
