Quote of the day 17th March 2017

"Nicola Sturgeon promised the 2014 referendum would be “once in a generation”, but now she has ignored the majority in Scotland who do not want another and has decided instead to double down on division and uncertainty.

"The first minister’s proposal offers Scotland the worst of all worlds. Her timetable would force people to vote blind on the biggest political decision a country could face. This is utterly irresponsible and has been taken by the first minister purely for partisan political reasons."

(Ruth Davidson, in an article "Sturgeon’s grounds for a new referendum have given way beneath her" which you can read in full on Times Red Box here.)

The Conservatives are not "imposing their views on Scotland" but respecting the decision that the Scottish people themselves took by 55% to 45% in 2014 and trying to make sure that any attempt to reconsider that decision is conducted fairly.

It is the SNP who are trying to impose their will on Scotland against the views which the people of Scotland voted for and call a second referendum which the opinion polls suggest a majority of Scots do not want.

The First Minister is causing further division, doubt and uncertainty which will damage social harmony and the economy of Scotland. You may think that is "playing a blinder." I call it harming Scotland.

I guess that could be described as "playing a blinder"
