Finding a vaccine

Today, the UK government announced funding of up to £93 million to open the new Vaccines Manufacturing and Innovation Centre twelve months early – turbocharging our world leading efforts to find a vaccine.

  • The UK is a world leader in the global efforts to find a vaccine. If a breakthrough is made, we need to be ready to manufacture a vaccine.

  • This £93 million of funding will allow the centre to open a full twelve months ahead of schedule, in Summer 2021, and meaning it is ready to produce enough vaccine doses to serve the entire UK population in as little as six months.

  • While the Centre is under construction, we will establish a rapid deployment facility, thanks to a further investment of £38 million. This facility will support efforts to ensure a vaccine is widely available to the public as soon as possible.

  • The Prime Minister promised Britain would throw everything we could at finding a vaccine - and we are. There remains a very long way to go but the UK truly is leading the global efforts to find a vaccine.
