Her Majesty The Queen's broadcast on the 75th anniversary of VE Day

"Our streets are not empty: they are filled with the love and the care that we have for each other.

And when I look at our country today and I see what we are willing to do to protect and support one another, I say with pride that w are still a nation that those brave soldiers, sailors and airman would recognise and admire."

There is literally nobody else who could have taken the story of the terrible war whose conclusion in the European theatre 75 years ago we commemorate today, and framed it so brilliantly as a message of hope to get us through the challenge our nation and every nation faces today.

It is difficult to find words to express how fortunate we are to have a monarch like Queen Elizabeth.
