The PM thanks the British people:

Today, the Prime Minister has thanked the British public for their fortitude, their perseverance and good common sense through this difficult time. Writing in the Mail on Sunday as you can read here, he wrote that:

  • While this pandemic continues to bring heart-breaking news every day, it has also brought to the fore acts of phenomenal bravery, compassion and selflessness across every part of our nation - highlighting the very best of humanity.

  • Whilst staying alert is more complex than simply staying at home, this is a complex problem and we need to trust in the good sense of the British people.

  • If we all stick at it, then we’ll be able, gradually, to get rid of the complexities and the restrictions and make it easier and simpler for families to meet again. But we must move slowly and at the right time.

  • The British public continues to make enormous sacrifices, which are paying off. Thanks to their fortitude, we can slowly inch forwards to a return to the freedoms we hold dear and our much-missed normality.
