Lockdown diary, day 42

Another beautiful day stuck at home working, except that I travelled a short distance outside Whitehaven for the first time in 42 days.

Not far by Cumbrian standards and within government guidelines - a trip to a wholesaler from whom my wife had persuaded me to place a bulk order of food supplies to reduce the number of trips to the shops. They don't deliver so I had to collect the items - which was done with great care to maintain social distancing in a highly professional manner.

Also today a council briefing by Teams (as opposed to Skype

Businesses use systems like teams and Skype. The Conservative party uses them and we're supposed to be the stick-in-the-muds. Carlisle city council and Copeland Borough Council have made progress using them, and even parts of Cumbria County Council are starting to make headway.

Let's hope we can start operating a proper system of council meetings be electronic means with public accessibility soon, and that we don't forget how to do it when the Coronavirus pandemic is finally over.

Keep well.
