Final roundup from Conservative Conference

Over the course of our four day virtual conference this week, the Conservative party set out how we are transforming our country fundamentally and permanently for the better. We will not be blown off course by the pandemic, and will continue to deliver on the priorities of the British people, and build back better from coronavirus.

  • We will become a world leader in low-cost green energy with £160 million of investment in offshore wind, cementing the UK as a leader in wind energy, creating 60,00 new jobs, boosting exports and reducing our emissions so we can reach Net Zero.

  • We are launching Job Entry Targeted Support to support those left jobless because of coronavirus, backed up by £238 million.

  • We will fix our broken asylum system by bringing forward legislation, ensuring it is firmer and fairer.

  • We have set out plans to better connect all four nations in the UK, ensuring we have the right connections to support, sustain and strengthen communities.

  • We are creating a ‘Generation Buy’ to help people achieve their dream of home ownership – by creating long-term fixed-rate mortgages with five per cent deposits, to help young people get onto the housing ladder even if they have only a small deposit.

  • We are opening a new Conservative Party headquarters in Leeds and launching a Blue Wall Fund, demonstrating our commitment to delivering for people who placed their trust in us, many for the first time, last December.

  • We are building 40 new hospital projects by 2030 – the biggest hospital building programme for a generation.
