Russia's attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station

This morning UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy about the very concerning situation at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station, with both leaders agreeing Russia must immediately cease its attack.

  • Russia’s attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station is gravely concerning - directly threatening the safety of all of Europe. 
  • The Prime Minister spoke with President Zelenskyy this morning, stating that the UK will do everything it can to ensure the situation does not deteriorate further. We will be seeking an emergency UN Security Council meeting today to discuss Russia’s actions, and the UK will raise this issue immediately with Russia and our close international partners. 
  • It is crucial for Russia to cease its attack on the power station and allow unfettered access for emergency services to safeguard Europe’s nuclear security.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
