High Turnouts at St Bees and Whitehaven remembrance ceremonies
Despite the cold weather and what would be described in most places as moderately heavy rain (West Cumbrians would call it "A La'al bit of rain") there were very high turnouts at both St Bees at Whitehaven War memorials this morning for civic wreath laying ceremonies.
(St Bees at 10.15 and Whitehaven at 11 am.)
In both cases the attendance was up on last year - at Whitehaven there was such a crush that people had difficulty fitting into the space around the war memorial.
Obviously people in West Cumbria consider the hundredth anniversary of the end of World War One, and all the deaths in that war and subsequent ones, something worth making an effort to remember.
