Macron in Britain

Today the Prime Minister hosted President Macron of France in Downing Street to honour four French Resistance fighters, recognising the historic role they played defending the UK and France in the Second World War.
  • In 1940 Charles de Gaulle, the leader of the French Resistance, arrived in London and made a historic radio broadcast pledging to stand with the UK against those intent on destroying us.

  • Eighty years on, the Prime Minister and French President will honour four men involved in this fight – as well as discussing the contemporary challenges we face today, such as our shared battle against the coronavirus.

  • This will help to strengthen the close relationship between our two nations – so we can continue to work together and seize the historic opportunities that lie ahead.
