World Environment day

The UK government is marking World Environment Day with a £64 million package to support tropical rainforests in Colombia.
  • Colombia’s rainforests are a powerful symbol of the fight against climate change, but have recently seen a spike in deforestation and forest fires in the wake of conflict and the impact of coronavirus.

  • The Colombian government is a leading voice on environmental issues in the region, and Britain is bolstering their efforts to prevent deforestation in the Amazon and tropical rainforests with a £64 million package of funding and support.

  • This will help tackle climate change, protect precious ecosystems, and support sustainable, rural livelihoods for communities that depend on the forest.
