"The NHS is open"

Peter Rooney, Chief Operating Officer of the NHS North Cumbria CCG, speaking at the Cumbria Health Scrutiny Committee today.

He was emphasising that if people are ill, the NHS will treat them and they should come forward, although it might take a bit longer before people can be seen than would have been the case before the pandemic. This is due to the disruption which COVID-19 has caused and is not the fault of NHS staff, as most people recognise..

He also stressed that although there have been a significant number of COVID cases in Cumbria. the vaccination programme has "severely reduced and disrupted" the link between the number of COVID infections and the number of people becoming seriously ill.
