Met Office warning: take care if travelling in Cumbria this weekend

There was a warning of snow in place for Cumbria until 5pm this evening and it was quite frosty.

After 5pm the warning turned from snow to ice, with untreated roads posing a threat to drivers until 10am on Saturday.

Saturday on the whole is looking unsettled, with a weather warning for rain in place from 5pm, lasting through until Sunday. 10-20mm of rain is expected to fall but it may be up to as much as 30mm, especially on high ground in the west of the region.

Overall the temperatures for the weekend are looking cooler than they have been over the past few weeks. Daily highs of 5 degrees celsius are predicted, with overnight temperatures sitting around 0 or 1 degree celsius. Monday is looking colder, and may only reach highs of 3 degrees celsius.
A spokesperson for The Met Office is encouraging drivers to be careful on icy roads, and to keep an eye on the website for any new or developing weather warnings
